Controlling the flow of rainwater

Blending eco-friendly design elements into a traditional landscape

Fusion gardening is an innovative landscaping approach that combines aesthetic appeal with environmental sustainability, such as pollinator's and native plants — while focusing on controlling the flow of rainwater, so it disperses naturally into the groundwater as opposed to overwhelming storm drains.

This method integrates traditional garden designs with modern, eco-friendly practices to create outdoor spaces that are both beautiful and functional.

Fusion gardens may include:

  • Native & pollinator gardens.
  • Rain gardens.
  • Drought-resistant gardens.
  • Edible gardens.
  • Perennial & ornamental gardens.
  • Wildlife & habitat gardens.
  • Shade & woodland gardens.
  • Water gardens & ponds.
  • Vertical & rooftop gardens.

What to look for

  • Look for a mix of native and adaptive plants that thrive in your region while supporting local ecosystems.
  • Consider walkways and patios made from permeable materials to improve drainage and reduce runoff.
  • Drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting can help minimize water use and keep your garden healthy.
  • Choose plants and materials that require minimal upkeep to reduce long-term costs and effort.
  • A certified Fusion Landscaping professional may be able to help you with your fusion garden design.

Things to consider

  • Check local regulations regarding landscaping, water usage, and property boundaries.
  • Understand any local water conservation rules before selecting plants and irrigation systems.
  • Assess your garden's exposure to sunlight and soil type to choose the best plants.
  • Plan for natural pest management and consider how your garden may attract or deter wildlife.
  • Ensure your garden design aligns with your available time and resources for upkeep.
  • Plant plants in the right space so they require less maintenance.
